New York Mets
PHILADELPHIA -- At his locker after the game, Chris Young offered no excuse for dropping a routine fly ball to right field to open the bottom of the 14th inning on Friday night.
Marlon Byrd, who reached on the critical error, eventually scored as the Phillies beat the Mets, 6-5.
"It was just a 'flub-up,'" Young said. "I was talking to a couple of my teammates inside. It was like I'm looking dead at it, the ball's coming down, and I just completely lost it. I got a little blurry. It's like I didn't even see it. I don't know why it happened, but there's no excuse. Big mistake. The game, where if you play that long, you want to be able to win. For me not to come up with that play, it sucks. But things happen. You just have to get ready for tomorrow."
Young, who started the game on the bench, also went 0-for-2 with a walk to drop his batting average to .202.
