New York Mets
PHILADELPHIA -- Juan Lagares appears headed to the disabled list.
A day after he was scratched from the lineup with a right rib-cage issue and bunted as a pinch hitter, Lagares returned to the starting lineup. However, Lagares was forced to depart in the 10th inning with what the team labeled pain in that rib cage. He had been 1-for-5.
The continued difficulty signals Lagares likely will land on the DL.
Matt den Dekker was demoted before Sunday's game to clear a roster spot for extra-pitcher Dana Eveland. Normally, a player needs to spend 10 days in the minors before returning, but the exception is when a player simultaneously lands on the DL. Alternatively, the Mets could summon Kirk Nieuwenhuis or Andrew Brown should Lagares be placed on the DL. With den Dekker's demotion, the Mets had only four bench players Sunday.
