PHILADELPHIA -- Jeremy Hefner will be dispatched to New York and will be examined by team doctors early next week after experiencing a forearm issue during a minor-league start Wednesday with Class A St. Lucie.
Hefner Hefner said he was unsure if the injury is related to the Tommy John surgery he underwent on Aug. 28, 2013. Terry Collins said it was unclear to him, too. But the manager noted that the issue being in the forearm certainly is cause for concern.
"To say it's related/unrelated at this point would just be speculation," Hefner told ESPNNewYork.com. "I'm resting right now and hopeful for more clarity next week."
Hefner departed his sixth minor-league start on Wednesday after one inning. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks for Class A St. Lucie in that appearance.
Assistant GM John Ricco labeled the forearm issue "soreness." The official transaction placing Hefner on the Florida State League disabled list referred to the injury as a strain.
