NEW YORK -- Needing catching inventory with Travis d'Arnaud on the disabled list for at least a month and Kevin Plawecki promoted to the majors, the New York Mets acquired minor league catcher Dan Rohlfing from the Minnesota Twins for cash.
Rohlfing, 26, had been on the DL with Triple-A Rochester the entire season with a sprained right ankle. He hit .205 with two homers and 23 RBIs and had a .305 on-base percentage in 254 plate appearances last season with the International League club.
The Mets also have catchers Johnny Monell and Nelfi Zapata at Triple-A Las Vegas, where Rohlfing will be assigned.
Rohlfing was 0-for-19 in Grapefruit League play during spring training with the Twins.
