Angel Pagan is back in the lineup on Tuesday, after missing five starts with an injured muscle on his right side. Pagan tested himself before Game 2 of a series against the Florida Marlins in San Juan.

Manager Jerry Manuel acknowledged that the Mets facing left-hander Nate Robertson helped the switch-hitting Pagan return to the lineup. Pagan is feeling OK from the right side of the plate, while the left side is less than perfect.

“He feels he can survive,” Manuel said.

Jesus Feliciano hit .300 with three runs scored in five games while filling in for Pagan.

FIRST THING: Fernando Tatis makes his first start at first base since May 30 at Milwaukee. Manuel wanted to rest Ike Davis and also try to keep Tatis sharp for pinch hitting duty. Tatis, who early in the season had one of the league’s highest averages as a pinch hitter, is in an 0-for-18 rut.

Manuel suggested it wasn’t fair to fault Tatis for the cold stretch because his workload has been so sporadic, it’s been difficult to keep his timing in order.

“I think I have to give him an opportunity,” Manuel said.

CATCHING ON: The Mets signed veteran catcher Michael Barrett to a minor league deal. Barrett has arrived in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Read more here.
