Deron Williams and his family were unaffected by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in eastern Turkey that killed at least 85 people Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
“Thanks everyone for checking on me I'm OK the quake was very far from Istanbul,” tweeted Williams, who is playing professionally in Turkey for Besiktas during the NBA lockout.
Istanbul, where Williams resides, is about 1,000 miles from where the earthquake occurred.
Nets GM Billy King traveled to Turkey to see Williams play on Saturday night. Williams scored 24 points and dished out 10 assists in his team’s 100-93 win over Pinar Karsiyaka in Izmir.
“Glad to be back in the US. Sad to hear abt earthquake in Turkey. Not sure how many people on the plane know yet,” King tweeted.
Williams later tweeted: “My Prayers go out to all the people affected by the earthquake in eastern Turkey.”
