Free agent small forward Caron Butler is expected to meet with the Nets again Thursday, according to multiple media reports. The Nets are one of four teams pursuing Butler, ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reported Wednesday. They are one of two teams that can offer him more than the $5 million mid-level exception, with their offer reportedly in the $7 million range.
• The Nets made their hirings of assistant coaches P.J. Carlesimo and Mario Elie official. As has been reported -- but will be reported again -- they’ll join assistant coaches Popeye Jones and Tom Barrise and assistant coach/player development Doug Overton on head coach Avery Johnson’s staff. Sam Mitchell has moved into the scouting department after serving as an assistant last season.
