Goodell, Newton booed to kick off NFL draft

NEW YORK -- NFL commissioner Roger Goodell received long and sustained boos at the start of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The boos were intermingled with chants of "We want football."

Goodell smiled and said, "I hear you." Then he added, "I agree with you." After giving the fans a minute or so, Goodell asked for a moment of silence for the victims of the extreme storms in the south. That finally brought the legendarily loud fans to silence.

Although Goodell got the worst of it, it should be some consolation that the first pick of the draft, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, got booed as well after he was selected by the Carolina Panthers.
