Johnny Damon, signed to a one-year deal to replace Carl Crawford in left for the Rays this season, said despite published reports of interest by the Yankees in bringing him back, the negotiations never really heated up.
"I don't really think it was close at all,'' Damon said in the Rays clubhouse before today's game. "I think they were very happy with their outfield situation and thought Posada was not going to be catching much. It really made it easy as far as their decision and as far as mine. I'm not ready to be a part-time player in this game. I feel like I have a few more years of playing every day. A few years from now, say three or four years from now, that will be more of my role. I'd like to think more four."
