Freddy Garcia got through his first start of the spring unscathed, two scoreless innings, no runs, one hit (a single by Matt Joyce), one strikeout, and help from a terrific heads-up play by second baseman Eduardo Nunez on a slow roller in the hole. With no shot at the runner going to first, Nunez wheeled and fired to third and nailed Joyce, who had been running on the pitch, to end the inning.
That means of the six potential starters we've seen so far -- Bartolo Colon, Ivan Nova, CC Sabathia. Phil Hughes, A.J. Burnett and now Garcia -- only Colon has allowed a run. Things will get tougher tomorrow night when the Red Sox come to The Boss, and Colon goes out for his first three-inning stint.
Nova is now in the game to pitch the third.
