Andrew Brackman will appear in his first game of the spring. Brackman, the 6-foot-10 prospect, had not pitched yet because of a strained groin.
The question is: Does he have time to make enough of an impression to beat out the veterans, Freddy Garcia (who starts today) and Bartolo Colon? If he does, he is going to start out very strong. Most likely, it is going to be difficult for Brackman to go north with the Yankees. It was going to be hard for him to overcome the odds before the injury.
However, what Brackman could accomplish is putting positive thoughts in the minds of manager Joe Girardi and pitching coach Larry Rothschild. If he can do that, he could be the first one called up when/if the veterans falter or the Yankees have an injury. Brackman will pitch in relief of Garcia, but we don't know which inning yet.
The game will be televised on YES and I will be blogging when news happens and trying to be as funny as Wally on my Twitter account.
