Watch out, Jose Bautista. Curtis Granderson’s right on your heels.

Granderson hit his team-leading 16th home run of the season in the bottom of the first on Sunday. He drilled a 1-1 fastball from Mike Pelfrey about five rows back in the right field bleachers.

It’s Granderson’s second homer in as many days. He trails Toronto’s Bautista by two for the major league lead. Bautista’s Jays play Houston today.

On Saturday night, Granderson insisted that he’s not a home run hitter. Though that’s getting harder and harder to believe with every swing this season.

He’s hit a homer every 10.5 at-bats.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Granderson is the third Yankee in the last 50 years with at least 16 homers through the team's first 45 games, joining Tino Martinez (1997) and Alex Rodriguez (2005 & 2007).

Even more remarkable, eight of Granderson’s homers have come off of left-handed pitching. He has eight in 48 at-bats against lefties. His previous high off of lefties is five homers, which he totaled in 147 at-bats in 2008.
