He may not have meant for it to come off the way it did, but here is Nick Swisher's response, in its entirety, when asked what it meant to the team to lose Derek Jeter to the DL:
"We just played a great game and you ask me that? I don't even know exactly what happened. A strain? Well, obviously, everyone knows what he's going up for, and he's the captain, we're going to miss him a lot, but then again we're trying to pick up where he left off. Gardy did a great job leading off for us tonight. I know he's excited about the opportunity to lead off for a little bit. But definitely when he's ready, we'll be ready for him to come back. He's a great player, definitely an elite, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The show goes on.''
Swisher had a fan-aided home run to left in the third inning and a double in the fifth. His average is now .227.
