Pre-Game Notes: The Yankees have called up LHP Steve Garrison from AA Trenton to replace RHP Sergio Mitre, who was placed on the 15-day DL with shoulder tendinitis. Joe Girardi said Mitre is also suffering from a bacterial infection. In any case, Mitre, who was reacquired by the Yankees from the Milwaukee Brewers on June 29, made four appearances in his second tour of Yankees duty, pitched 5-1/3 innings and ran up an ERA of 11.81. . . tonight's starter, Bartolo Colon, is 9-3 lifetime vs. the Rays but took the loss in a 5-1 Yankees defeat by Tampa Bay on July 7 at Yankee Stadium. To that point, it was the worst start of Colon's season, but only for a week. On July 14, his last start, Colon last just 2/3 of an inning against the Blue Jays, allowing six hits and eight runs (3 earned). Rays DH Johnny Damon particularly loves hitting against Colon -- 18-for-51 (.353) with two home runs . . . Jeremy Hellickson has made to relief appearances against the Yankees, but this is his first start against them, and you know what that usually means. No Yankee has had more than two at-bats against Hellickson. Robby Cano, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira are hitting .500 against him; Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson, Nick Swisher and Francisco Cervelli are hitting .000.
