Pre-Game Notes: Freddy Garcia threw a bullpen session today but did not throw any split-finger fastballs, meaning he will not be able to return to the rotation before Saturday at the earliest. Garcia, who cut his right index finger with a knife sometime last week in a "kitchen accident,' will throw again on Thursday, but will not be pencilled into any games until he is able to throw his splitter without pain . . . Ivan Nova has won seven straight games, but his one and only start against Kansas City was not a good one. On May 12 at Yankee stadium, Nova allowed a season-high eight runs in three innings in an 11-5 Yankees loss. Melky Cabrera and Eric Hosmer hit home runs. . . No Yankee in tonight's lineup has ever faced Danny Duffy, a rookie making his 16th career start tonight. . . Joe Girardi said it was "very possible'' Alex Rodriguez could join the team in Minnesota on Thursday provided he comes through tonight and tomorrow's rehab games with Triple AAA Scranton in one piece. Girardi said that after having played two straight games in the field, he might start A-Rod off at DH when he returns.
