Bartolo Colon was pulled with two out in the eighth after allowing two runs on seven hits in the first game of Sunday's double-header in Baltimore.
Colon gave up just two hits through six innings but faltered in the late innings.
He allowed two hits in the seventh, including a run-scoring single to Vladimir Guerrero. He also got into trouble in the eighth, failing to get out of a two-on, none-out jam. After retiring two hitters, Colon allowed a run-scoring single to J.J. Hardy. He was then pulled for left-hander Boone Logan.
Girardi had righty reliever Rafael Soriano warming in the bullpen earlier in the eighth, but opted to stick with Colon.
Entering play today, Colon had struggled of late. He had two wins in his last nine starts, pitching to a 5.21 ERA and allowing batters to hit .311 in that span. His outing Sunday will lower his ERA and OBP but will leave him with just two wins in his last ten starts.
