Joe Girardi was optimistic that Alex Rodriguez would return from a sprained thumb tonight in Toronto.
Rodriguez isn't in the lineup, but he told ESPNNewYork.com that he's leaning toward playing in Saturday's matinee.
Rodriguez hasn't played since Sept. 9.

Toronto starter Dustin McGowan is making just his second start since 2008 after undergoing two shoulder surgeries and and knee surgery. He is 2-2 with a 5.61 in 11 career appearance vs. the Yankees but has not faced them since June 8, 2008.
