Jorge Posada couldn't say enough about the greatness of longtime teammate and friend Mariano Rivera in the wake of Rivera's record-setting 602nd career save.
He just wished he was behind the plate to catch hit.
"I'm a little bit jealous of Russell [Martin] that he's able to catch it," Posada said. "But it's all about Mo today. He's amazing."
Some speculated (or hoped) that Joe Girardi would put Posada in to catch Rivera when the right-hander took the mound for save no. 602. But Girardi disputed that late last week.
It has been a tough year for Posada. In his first season as Yankees DH, he has been benched for long stretches. Martin took his spot as the Yankees' regular catcher.
