Girardi: 'We play to win a trophy'

It’s World Series championship or bust for the Yankees -- what else is new?

Asked if he’d be disappointed if his team is eliminated on Thursday night, manager Joe Girardi replied, “I think we’re all going to be disappointed if we don’t win [Thursday]. This team has played hard all year long, and I’m proud of what they’ve done to this point. We all understand what the goal is here, and that’s no secret.

“I would say for any team that’s in the playoffs or not in the playoffs, if you don’t win the World Series, it’s disappointing,” Girardi continued. “You can have good years, but this is why we play. This is why guys go to work in November and start conditioning and doing all the things, and they start hitting in December. We play to win a trophy. So it’s disappointing.”
