Three Yankees win BBWAA Awards

Three members of the New York Yankees organization were voted awards by the New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America Monday afternoon. Closer Mariano Rivera was awarded the Joe DiMaggio Toast of the Town Award, reliever David Robertson won the Joan Payson award for community service in honor of his work with High Socks for Hope Foundation, established to help hurricane victims in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and retiring trainer Gene Monahan was awarded the William J. Slocum/Jack Lang award for long and meritorious service. Other winners included the Toronto Blue Jays' Jose Bautista (Sid Mercer/Dick Young Player of the Year Award); the St. Louis Cardinals' David Freese (the Babe Ruth award for post-season MVP); the Mets' Jose Reyes (Ben Epstein/Dan Castellano Good Guy Award); Hall of Famer Gary Carter (Milton & Arthur Richman You Gotta Have Heart award) and former Met and LA Dodger Tommy Davis (Casey Stengel You Could Look it Up award).

The awards will be handed out at the BWAA's annual dinner on Jan. 21 at the New York Hilton.
