To the surprise of virtually no one, the Yankees confirmed that Nick Johnson will undergo surgery on his painful right wrist, probably on Tuesday. Johnson has been on the DL since May 8 with what the team called 'tendon inflammation,'' a condition the Yankees tried to treat with a cortisone shot. That didn't work, so the oft-injured Johnson will go under the knife on the same wrist and in virtually the same place as he did in 2008 as a Washington National. Manager Joe Girardi said Johnson will need 4-6 weeks recovery time before he can even pick up a bat, and "substantial'' recovery time after that before he can rejoin the team. "This is not a quick fix,' Girardi said. "This is going to take awhile.'' I'll have a complete story on the website shortly.
