Andy Pettitte will start Sunday -- likely at Class A Tampa -- and be on a 45-50 pitch limit, manager Joe Girardi said.
The left-hander threw 32 pitches over a three-inning outing for Class A Tampa on Monday night.
Girardi said the Yankees’ intention is still to bring Pettitte back into the starting rotation when he’s ready (based on pitch count and pitch effectiveness).
“That’s why we signed him,” Girardi said.
That means starters like Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia are going to have to keep pitching well to keep their spots.
The Yankees manager had no update on Michael Pineda’s status.
