Interesting lineup tonight, but Joe Girardi said don't read anything sinister into it; Russell Martin is just being given a day off after catching four games in a row, and with left-hander Derek Holland starting for Texas, he wanted Eduardo Nunez's right-handed bat in the lineup and Derek Jeter at shortstop. "He's our everyday shortstop, so get him out there," Girardi said of Jeter, adding that with the natural grass surface and relatively cool weather this time of year in Texas, "(Jeter) can play three days in a row here." ... Brett Gardner, on the DL with a right elbow strain, was slated to do some running and throwing today, but will likely not pick up a bat before the Yankees return home this weekend. ... The Rangers will have a pregame ceremony to honor the retiring Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, who Girardi managed during his brief time as a Yankee late in the 2008 season. Asked if he considered Rodriguez a Hall of Famer, Girardi said, "Yes. No doubt. Pudge was the elite class, no doubt about it. You just didn't run on his teams and when you did you were caught 50 percent of the time. He changed the way you played against him. There aren't too many guys that can do that from back there. He was amazing." Plus, having 2,844 career hits doesn't hurt.
