To me the biggest concern for the Yankees is their starting pitching. After CC Sabathia, do you really have a lot of faith in any of the Yankees' other starters? I don't, except for maybe Andy Pettitte, if he can stay healthy.
So with the Cubs awful, Matt Garza could be on the block. This is from ESPN's MLB Trade Rumors, via CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
The New York Yankees will certainly attempt to improve their pitching staff this summer and may focus on starters. Heyman of CBSSports.com writes that the Yankees like Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza the best of all potential pitching trade targets.
Among others that could hit the market include Garza's teammate Ryan Dempster, Houston Astros left-hander Wandy Rodriguez, Milwaukee Brewers right-handers Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum and if the White Sox fade -- they are currently in first place in the American League Central -- Jake Peavy may become available.
The Yankees, Heyman adds, aren't all that interested in Greinke or Marcum, based on their prospects in the American League, and perhaps in the case of Greinke, how he'd handle the Bronx Zoo.
Rodriguez may be the Yankees second choice among the aforementioned arms and may become their only choice if the Cubs agree to an extension with Garza, a route many reports suggest they'd prefer.
To me, the Yankees need help in the rotation. Sabathia is good and Pettitte, if healthy, looks like he is still a keeper, but after that ... who knows?
