Derek Jeter hit a leadoff homer in the Yankees win over the Tigers on Sunday.
SILENCE THE ROAR
The Yankees wrapped up their road trip with a 5-1 win Sunday over the Tigers. Derek Jeter hit the first pitch he saw from Justin Verlander out of the park. He now has four homers on the first pitch of the game since 2000 (when pitch data is complete), matching Alfonso Soriano for the most during that span.

Phil Hughes bounced back from his disaster start in Anaheim to pitch his first career nine-inning complete game. His one mistake was a hanging curveball which Prince Fielder sent over the right-field fence.
Hughes has allowed at least one homer in each of his first 11 starts. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, there have only been two longer streaks to start a season in MLB history: Runelvys Hernández of the Royals in 2006 (12) and Bert Blyleven of the Twins in 1987 (14).
Phil Hughes vs Tigers
Hughes relied heavily on his fastball -- 100 of his 123 (81 percent) pitches -- and he got a career-high 21 outs with his heater.
Hughes also threw nearly half of his pitches out of the strike zone and the Tigers were hitless in 11 at-bats with seven strikeouts in an at-bat ending with a pitch off the plate.
After giving up 21 hits in 46 at-bats (.457) to righties over his previous three starts, he allowed just three hits in 16 at-bats (.188) to the Tigers right-handers.
WELCOME TO THE MAJORS
The Yankees won the opening game of the series, 9-4, pounding Tigers rookie Casey Crosby. Curtis Granderson delivered the big blow off Crosby, who was making his major-league debut, with a second-inning grand slam.
Since 1950, the only other pitcher making his major-league debut against the Yankees to also allow a grand slam in that game was another Tigers pitcher, Beiker Graterol, in 1999.
This was the second time as a Yankee that Granderson hit a grand slam from the number two spot in the order. Over the last 65 seasons, Granderson is the only Yankee to have multiple grannies while batting second.
CC Sabathia threw seven innings of three-run ball, and his slider was much improved over his previous two starts. He got nine outs and 10 swings-and-misses with the pitch on Friday, after netting just six outs and four missed swings in his previous two outings combined.
DON'T WALK THIS WAY
The Yankees suffered another walk-off loss Saturday when Omir Santos hit a game-ending sacrifice fly with the bases loaded off Boone Logan to give the Tigers a 4-3 win.

The only other Tiger in the last 65 seasons with a walk-off sac fly against the Yankees was Jerry Turner, who hit one off George Frazier in 1982.
Hiroki Kuroda took the no-decision despite allowing two runs in seven innings. His one mistake was a 466-foot home run to Miguel Cabrera.
That's the longest homer allowed by a Yankee pitcher on the road since Troy Tulowitzki tagged Roger Clemens for a 474-foot homer in 2007 at Coors Field, according to ESPN's Home Run Tracker.
