First Pitch: The Captain in the Tent

Most of the year, the Tent beyond left field at George Steinbrenner Field is used for weddings, bar mitzvahs and business outings.

But in the spring, it is home to the opening press conferences of the Yankees manager and the team's biggest stars. Derek Jeter is the captain of the Tent and will have his first official 2013 press conference at 9:45 on Sunday morning. On Monday, Robinson Cano will graduate to the Tent for the first time.

Jeter has never been in the Tent for impure reasons. While Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte had to confess their steroid sins in years past, the closest Jeter came to having anything negative occur in the Tent was when he expressed his anger over the public nature of events from his last contract negotiation.

Jeter continues as the symbol of all that is right in the Yankees' universe. Even at 38, coming off a broken ankle, he is the one who will be needed to lead if the Yankees are going to finish with a parade this season. He is the one his teammates will need to follow if they are going to win a World Series championship.

ON DECK: Position players are all due to report. The first full workout will be on Monday. Wallace Mathews and I will have you covered.

IN THE HOLE: Cano is expected to be in the Tent on Monday.
