TAMPA, Fla. -- The Yankees have added Ben Francisco to the outfield competition.

The Indians released Francisco earlier Monday.

Francisco, 31, had good numbers thus far this spring, hitting .400 (8-for-20). But there didn't figure to be much playing time for Francisco with the Indians, who signed Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn.

In 2012, Francisco played for three teams, hitting .240 with four homers and 15 RBIs in 82 games.

He will compete with Juan Rivera, Matt Diaz, Ronnier Mustelier, Melky Mesa and Zoilo Almonte to fill in for Curtis Granderson. At least two of players from the group should make the team. It is possible that three of them could.
