Morning Notes: No Jeter today

TAMPA, Fla. -- There's a Yankees-Red Sox game here today, but you'd never know it from the lineups. Brett Gardner is the only regular from last year's team in the Yankees lineup, and he only played in 16 games. Daniel Nava is about the biggest name in the Red Sox lineup. But that's not the real news today . . .

NO CAPTAIN AGAIN: Not surprisingly, Derek Jeter is not in the lineup today, nor does his name appear on any of the lists of pregame hitting, stretching or fielding groups. Not did he appear in the pre-game clubhouse. So obviously, this is going to be a rest and treatment day for the 38-year-old Jeter a day after he was a late scracth from the game against the Phillies in Clearwater with stiffness in his surgically-repaired left ankle. We'll have more details when the clubhouse re-opens after BP and Joe Girardi speaks to the media.

CC ON THE BUMP: Not here, but across the street in a minor league game at the Yankees Himes Ave. complex against Clearwater, the Phillies Single A affilliate. We'll have a report on that, too, after he finishes up around 3 p.m.

LOGAN SAYS HE'S OK: A day after his first spring training appearance, in which he allowed a leadoff single but then retired the next three hitters, striking out two, Boone Logan said his sore elbow felt good. "And thanks for asking,'' he said.
