CLEVELAND -- It's raining heavily here in Cleveland at 5:15, less than two hours before first pitch, and according to the weather app on my iPhone, the chance of rain is 100% between now and 9 p.m., when it drops to 90%. So the possibility of a rainout is real, although since this is the Yankees only trip here this season, it's more likely we'll be here all night as they try to get this one in. The problem is the weather forecast is equally bad for tomorrow, which makes the chances of a makeup doubleheader pretty remote.
In any event, a rainout wouldn't be the worst thing for the Yankees; their scheduled starter for tomorrow night's game, Phil Hughes, is down with a stomach bug and looked like death in the clubhouse before the game. A rainout tonight would push Ivan Nova, tonight's starter, to tomorrow night and give Hughes an extra day to recover.
