Game 83: Yankees (43-39) @ Twins (36-43)

MINNEAPOLIS -- Here's the Yankees' lineup for Game 2 against the Twins, who are starting RHP Samuel Deduno:

Brett Gardner CF

Ichiro Suzuki RF

Robinson Cano 2B

Travis Hafner DH

Zoilo Almonte LF

Lyle Overbay 1B

Chris Stewart C

David Adams 3B

Alberto Gonzalez SS

Phil Hughes RHP

Pregame notes: Jayson Nix is not in the lineup tonight due to tightness in his right hamstring; the Yankees have just two healthy players on their bench tonight, Vernon Wells and Austin Romine. Nix says he is available to pinch hit tonight if needed ... Wells, who had two hits last night but is still in the midst of a horrendous slump -- he has not homered since May 15, a stretch of 131 at-bats -- took early BP against hitting coach Kevin Long and with Joe Girardi watching closely from behind the cage ... Strange pregame sight: Cano taking some swings in the indoor batting cage -- right-handed. Cano said it is something he does from time to time to loosen up the muscles on the right side of his torso. No plans to bat righty in a game ... Hughes, who threw eight strong innings against the Texas Rangers last Thursday but took the loss when the Yankees were shut out by Derek Holland, is 2-1 lifetime against the Twins with a 3.00 ERA in four career starts. Twins' starter Deduno has faced the Yankees just once in his career, but left the game after 1-2/3 innings with an eye irritation last Sept. 26.
