A-Rod on New York: 'I never want to leave'

MINNEAPOLIS -- In what might come as bad news to some Yankees fans, Alex Rodriguez told USA Today's Bob Nightengale that he has no intention of leaving the team.

"I love being a Yankee," Rodriguez, in his first extensive interview since last October's posteason, told Nightengale in the lengthy piece, which you can read here in its enitrety.

"I love being in New York. I never want to leave."

He also pooh-poohed a recent tabloid story that said he planned to come back too soon so he get reinjured, retire and collect the rest of the $114 million the Yankees owe him without playing.

"Is that the craziest thing?" Rodriguez said. "I'm going to come back quick so I can get hurt. Holy [expletive]! How do you come up with that [expletive]?"

Depending on where you stand on the subject of Alex Rodriguez, this might be the most chilling comment of all: "I'm not giving up. I never will. I'm not wired that way."
