NEW YORK -- The Yankees and Royals are in a rain delay, the game being halted as the Yankees were coming to bat in the bottom of the fourth inning at 8:10 p.m. after a sunshower that had begun about a half-hour before gained intensity. The infield was already flooded by the time the grounds crew, battling high winds and a billowing tarp, began covering the field to the amusement of the crowd, most of which sought shelter under the overhangs.

The Yankees trailed at the time of the stoppage, 2-0, on a Billy Butler home run and a pair of doubles, all in the second inning, off Phil Hughes.

The Yankees announced that the game will resume at 9:10 p.m.
