First Pitch: Yanks today, but tomorrow ...

Will Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain still be Yankees by game time? USA TODAY Sports

LOS ANGELES -- With Major League Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline fast approaching -- by 4 p.m. New York time, or more than six hours before the first pitch of tonight's Yankees-Dodgers game, it will all be over -- it's now or never to predict which of the men who were in Yankees uniforms for Tuesday night's game will be in different uniforms tonight.

And since I'm worn out from predicting, on a daily basis, the time and duration of Alex Rodriguez's pending suspension -- I'm sure it will come any minute now -- I'm going to throw some names out there and leave it up to you to guess.

Which of the following Yankees, on the roster and in their clubhouse Tuesday night, will be ex-Yankees by tonight?

In no particular order (yeah, right), the candidates are:

Phil Hughes

Joba Chamberlain

• And 23 others.

Seriously, if the Yankees are going to make a deal, you have to figure one, or both, of those pitchers is likely to be included. Both will be free agents after this season, neither has performed up to expectations, and both can likely be sold on the basis of either "he's still young" or "change of scenery" arguments to the next sucker, er, buyer.

So what's your best guess?

Is Hughes an ex-Yankee by the end of business today? Is Joba? Will they both be shipped out of town, or will both still be here when I get to the clubhouse about an hour after the deadline expires?

Let us know in the comments section below. And of course, I'll let you know if they're still here at 4:01 p.m. this afternoon, if not sooner.

UP NOW: The Rapid Reaction off last night's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers, plus blogs on why Andy Pettitte still believes the Yankees are headed into October baseball, as well as one on the voices inside Derek Jeter's head. Seriously.

ON DECK: Game 2 between the Yankees and Dodgers, the finale of this abbreviated series, matches the Yankees' ace, Hiroki Kuroda (10-6, 2.51) against his Dodgers counterpart, Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 1.96), first pitch at 10:10 p.m. I'll be in the clubhouse when it opens at 6:40 p.m. and will post the lineup -- wonder who will be in it? -- as soon as it goes up, with all the pregame news shortly thereafter, so make a date to check in with us this evening.

I'm also planning to do a live chat at 2 p.m., but of course, that can change depending on whatever trade deadline madness comes down this afternoon. So check in on that, too. And as always, thanks for reading.
