NEW YORK -- The Yankees still need an incredible run to win the wild card or the division, but their fate is really in their own hands.
In the AL East, they trail the Red Sox, Rays and the Orioles with 35 games to go. They face the Rays this weekend in a three-game series and have three more with them at home in late September. They play the first place Red Sox -- whom they trail by six games -- and the Orioles seven more times each. So that is 20 games against the teams they are trying to beat in the East.
Their other 15 games? They are all against last place teams. They have six more with the Jays and play the White Sox, Giants and Astros for three each.
So is 25-10 realistic the rest of the way? It just might be, which would leave them at the 93 wins that Joe Girardi thinks they need to make the playoffs.
ON DECK: The three games in Tampa, include two night games and a day game. The pitching matchups: Hiroki Kuroda (11-8, 2.41) vs. Chris Archer (6-5, 2.95).
