HOUSTON -- Joe Girardi said he wished he could have sent Jorge Posada out with Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte to take Mariano Rivera out of the game on Thursday in the Bronx. Instead, Posada viewed the festitivities on TV from his home in Miami.
"Please make sure that Mariano knows that I want nothing more than to be with him tonight," Posada said in a statement he gave to PR head Jason Zillo. "I was crying at home with him. There will never be another Mariano Rivera. He was a friend and a champion of a teammate. He really cared about the game of baseball, the way it was played and whatever it took to win that night."
