Yankees to honor Mandela

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The New York Yankees will honor the late Nelson Mandela with a plaque in Monument Park to commemorate his memorable visit to New York in 1990, a baseball official said.

Shortly after being released from a South African prison, Mandela attended an anti-apartheid rally and concert at old Yankee Stadium. He donned a Yankees hat and jacket and declared, "You know who I am. I am a Yankee."

The team is expected to make an official announcement on Monday. Mandela died last week at age 95.
