New York Senator Chuck Schumer helped out one of his home-state teams.
A senior Yankee official said that Schumer's office helped to make sure that all the paper work was done properly so Tanaka could be in Tampa for spring training on time.
The Yankees signed Tanaka on Jan. 22, giving them a little more than three weeks to have him ready to join the team when pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 14. In order to obtain a work visa, one must have a solid job offer, which Tanaka certainly had with his seven-year, $155 million contract.
Schumer retweeted the Yanks' tweet.
