NEW YORK -- After a three-day absence -- one a game day, one an off-day and the third a rainout -- with a sore left hand, Jacoby Ellsbury is back atop the Yankees' lineup tonight for the conclusion of this abbreviated two-game set with Robby Cano and the Mariners, first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
Here's the lineup that will face rookie left-hander Roenis Elias:
Derek Jeter SS
Hiroki Kuroda RHP
NOTES: Kuroda is coming off a poor outing against the L.A. Angels in which he allowed 10 hits and six earned runs in 4-2/3 innings, including two home runs. Kuroda is 2-3 lifetime against the Mariners with a 3.27 ERA. ... Elias, a 25-year old Cuban defector who made the team out of spring training, is making just his sixth big-league start, all this season, so naturally he has never faced the Yankees. ... The Yankees caught a break when Lloyd McClendon chose to stay on rotation with Elias tonight, skipping over his ace, King Felix Hernandez, who is 4-1 with a 1.18 ERA against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. ... Joe Girardi said Brendan Ryan, who has yet to play this season because of a cervical spine nerve injury, will begin a rehab assignment for the Double-A Trenton Thunder tomorrow, and could be just three or four games away from being reinstated, which dovetails nicely with the Yankees' needs; they have been playing with a 24-man roster since Michael Pineda's suspension but will be able to add a player to replace him Monday, when his suspension ends and a DL stint (Grade 1 teres major muscle strain) begins. ... Yesterday's rained out game has been rescheduled for June 2 at 7:05 p.m.
