Game 29: Yankees (15-13) vs. Rays (14-16)

NEW YORK -- Alfredo Aceves last pitched for the New York Yankees on May 8, 2010. Now he's back, called on to provide help for a tired bullpen after Friday night's marathon 10-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The relievers weren't the only tired Yankees, with a day game on Saturday after a game that ended just before 1 a.m. The long game caused manager Joe Girardi to leave Derek Jeter out of the lineup for Saturday's game. Carlos Beltran also gets a day off.

The lineup:

Jacoby Ellsbury CF

Brett Gardner LF

Mark Teixeira 1B

Brian McCann C

Alfonso Soriano DH

Kelly Johnson 3B

Brian Roberts 2B

Ichiro Suzuki RF

Yangervis Solarte SS

Masahiro Tanaka RHP

NOTES: Chris Leroux, who pitched the 14th inning Friday and took the loss, was designated for assignment to make room for Aceves. ... Aceves went to spring training with the Orioles, was released, then signed with the Yankees just before Opening Day. ... Once he gets in a game, Aceves will be the 20th pitcher used by the Yankees this season. The Yankees and Chicago White Sox lead the major leagues with 19 pitchers used. The Yankees used just 24 pitchers all last season. The club record is 28.
