Game 35: Yanks (19-15) at Brewers (22-14)

MILWAUKEE -- If you're in the area and planning to come to Saturday's game, Joe Girardi has a message for you: "I'm sorry."

That's because he decided to give Derek Jeter the night off. There's nothing wrong with The Captain, other than being six weeks shy of 40 years old. But Jeter was going to get one of these three games in Milwaukee off anyway, and the Brewers plan to honor him with a pregame ceremony Sunday, so there you have it.

"I’m in a no-win situation," Girardi said. "But I have to do what's best for the team and what’s best for the player. And I understand people want to see him. I want to see him. And I’m sure people bought tickets for tonight to see Derek. For that, I’m sorry. I'm in a tough spot."

But, Girardi pointed out, CC Sabathia is starting Saturday, and Milwaukee fans love Sabathia for his three months as a Brewer in 2008. So the night shouldn't be a total loss if you're coming to Miller Park.

For the rest of you, here's the Yankees lineup that willl face righty Kyle Lohse, first pitch at 7:10 p.m.:

Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

Brett Gardner, LF

Carlos Beltran, RF

Mark Teixeira, 1B

Brian McCann, C

Yangervis Solarte, 3B

Brian Roberts, 2B

Brendan Ryan, SS

CC Sabathia, LHP

NOTES: Ryan will make his first start of the season, after spending much of spring training and all of April on the disabled list with a cervical spine nerve injury. He did come in as a defensive replacement for Jeter in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Angels in Anaheim. ... Girardi said Shawn Kelley's stiff lower back "felt much better" Saturday, but the reliever will probably not be available. However, Adam Warren, who needed just 17 pitches to get through 1 2/3 innings Froday night, probably will be available. ... Solarte, Friday night's hitting star who also suffered the brunt of Carlos Gomez coming down on his foot with his spikes in the first inning, said he is fine. "I don't want any days off," Solarte said. "I'm young." And good. ... Girardi said he will probably give Roberts a day off Sunday, and did not want to sit both Roberts and Jeter on the same day, another factor in Jeter not playing Saturday. ... Surprisingly, Sabathia has only faced the Brewers three times in his career, having spent most of it in the American League. He is 1-1 with a 3.05 ERA lifetime vs. the Brew Crew. Aramis Ramirez has great numbers against Sabathia, batting .526 (10-for-19). Gomez is 2-for-10 against him. ... Lohse is 1-3 with a 5.46 ERA in five career starts against the Yankees. Beltran is hitting .490 against Lohse (25-for-51, 4 HRs) and Alfonso Soriano is hitting .357 against him (20-for-56, 4 HRs). Soriano is not in the starting lineup, however, with the Yankees not having a DH spot in a National League park.
