Game 42: Pirates at Yankees, Game 1

NEW YORK -- This is the kind of day Ernie Banks would love: Sunny skies, warm weather, and the Pittsburgh Patsies in the house.

Hey, hey, hey, let's play two today!

Here's the Yankees lineup for Game 1 of this old school, two-games-for-the-price-of-one Sunday doubleheader that will face Pirates righty Charlie Morton:

Brett Gardner DH

Derek Jeter SS

Jacoby Ellsbury CF

Mark Teixeira 1B

Brian McCann C

Alfonso Soriano RF

Yangervis Solarte 2B

Kelly Johnson 3B

Zoilo Almonte LF

Hiroki Kuroda RHP

NOTES: Why Gardner at DH, you might wonder? Because Ellsbury, who missed yesterday's game with a flu-like illness, will not play the second game and Joe Girardi is saving Brett's legs for centerfield duty later . . . Derek Jeter also will not play the second game . . . Dellin Betances, who worked two innings in yesterday's 7-1 victory, is not available today . . . The Yankees have recalled RHP Jose Ramirez from AA Scranton, where he was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in three relief appearances, as their 26th man for today's doubleheader. He will return to Scranton after the game . . . Michael Pineda threw a bullpen before the game, but was not available to the media to report on how wonderful he felt, or didn't feel . . . The second game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Vidal Nuno (1-1, 6.43), coming off a subpar performance against the Mets last Monday, will face almost-Yankee Gerrit Cole (3-3, 3.76).
