TORONTO -- The Yankees try to avoid a sweep by the Blue Jays tonight, behind Hiroki Kuroda, who faces RHP Drew Hutchison. Francisco Cervelli gets the start behind the plate, his second since coming off the disabled list, because Joe Girardi said he wanted to rest Brian McCann for the weekend series against the Red Sox in the Bronx.
Here's tonight's starting lineup:
Derek Jeter SS
NOTES: The Blue Jays have not won three straight games against the Yankees since 2007. ... Girardi said CC Sabathia came out of yesterday's sim game OK -- well, what he actually said was, "I didn’t hear anything that didn’t say he didn’t feel OK, so to me, that’s a good sign," meaning Sabathia is still scheduled to make a rehab start for the Class A Tampa Yankees on Saturday. ... Girardi said, "Right now, we're still on rotation" for the Red Sox series, meaning Vidal Nuno will start Friday, Masahiro Tanaka on Saturday and Chase Whitley on Sunday. ... Kuroda is 4-3 with a 3.81 ERA in eight career starts vs. Toronto, but 1-3, 5.65 at the Rogers Centre. This is the first time he has faced them this season. ... This will be Hutchison's third start against the Yankees this season. He lost the previous two, including last Thursday at Yankee Stadium, when he lasted just 4-1/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. His ERA at home this year is an unsightly 8.72. ... Tomorrow is Derek Jeter's 40th birthday, but if you happen to run into him, avoid the subject. He sat for an uncomfortable 8-1/2 minutes discussing it with the beat writers before the game. Bottom line: "It's just like any other birthday."
