Game 90: Yanks (45-44) @ Indians (44-45)

CLEVELAND -- The day started with Masahiro Tanaka on a plane back to New York for an MRI, continued with Carlos Beltran being scratched after fouling a ball off his own face during batting practice, and in between, it was revealed that Brett Gardner has been troubled by a lower abdominal strain that the Yankees suspected might have been a sports hernia (thankfully, it wasn't).

On top of that, Derek Jeter, who was supposed to have the day off, had to be hustled into the lineup to take Beltran's place as the DH.

And oh, yeah, tonight is Brandon McCarthy's Yankees debut.

So here's the lineup Joe Girardi came up with to face the Indians and RHP Josh Tomlin for Game 3 of this four-game series:

Jacoby Ellsbury CF

Jeter DH

Brian McCann C

Mark Teixeira 1B

Brian Roberts 2B

Ichiro Suzuki RF

Zoilo Almonte LF

Zelous Wheeler 3B

Brendan Ryan SS

McCarthy RHP

One more thing: Yes, the Yankees have two starters in their lineup whose first names start with a Z tonight; Almonte was recalled from Triple-A Scranton before the game and will take Tanaka's roster spot.
