NEW YORK -- Mark Teixeira says his back feels “really good,” but he has yet to swing a bat so he doesn’t know how his back spasm will fully respond to baseball activities.
Nonetheless, the Yankees are not going to put Teixeira on the DL yet. Joe Girardi said the Yankees will know more within the next two days. Teixeira said he can’t speculate on when exactly he will return to the field until he picks up a bat.
Girardi said if Teixeira is going to miss 12 days or more, they will retroactively put him on the DL. He last played Sunday, so he is five days into the 12-day limitation put forth by Girardi. The Yankees will continue to play with a 24 players, while Teixeira heals.
