"Yes, I think," manager Joe Girardi said Sunday morning.
"We'll see," said Teixeira, as he headed out to the field for batting practice.
Teixeira appeared to come through the BP session without any trouble, so it appears that he will indeed play against the Cleveland Indians in the 1:05 p.m. ET game at Yankee Stadium.
"It's important to us," Girardi said. "To have him back in the middle of the order, it'd be nice."
Teixeira hasn't played since Wednesday, when he hurt the pinkie on his left hand while sliding into home plate against the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees' lineup against Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco:
Brett Gardner, LF
Derek Jeter, SS
Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
Carlos Beltran, DH
Stephen Drew, 2B
Martin Prado, 3B
Ichiro Suzuki, RF
Hiroki Kuroda, RHP
NOTES: Chase Headley isn't hurt, but is simply getting a day off. ... Girardi still won't say whether Michael Pineda will return to the Yankees' rotation Wednesday in Baltimore, or whether the Yankees will have him make another minor league rehab start instead. ... Carrasco is making his first start since April 25. He is winless in 17 starts since June 29, 2011.
