Cold play: Yanks get Chris Martin for cash

The Yankees added a little bullpen depth by trading for the very tall Chris Martin. The Yankees are sending cash to the Colorado Rockies for the 6-foot-8 right-hander, sources confirmed.

Martin, 28, made 16 appearances last season for Colorado, posting a 6.89 ERA in 15.2 innings. He also posted a 4.39 ERA in 25 games at Triple-A last year. He throws in the mid-90s. YES' Jack Curry first reported the deal on Twitter.

Martin does have minor league options so he very likely will start the year at Triple-A, waiting on an injury for his opportunity. The relievers ahead of Martin on the pecking order include Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, David Carpenter, Justin Wilson, Adam Warren, Esmil Rogers, Chase Whitley and Bryan Mitchell.

The Yankees designated Gonzalez Germen for assignment to make room for Martin.

There is no immediate word if this Chris Martin can sing.
