The Nick Mangold contract and the Darrelle Revis speculation dominated Tuesday at the New York Jets, who held their final public practice, but there were other topics. Such as:
The Old Man & the Rook. Ancient FB Tony Richardson, pushed by rookie John (The Terminator) Conner, appears to have a roster spot locked up. Rex Ryan said he'd be "shocked if those two aren't on the opening-day roster." Jason Davis, different story. The Jets really like the third-string fullback, but it's hard to imagine them keeping three at the position.
Injury update. Rookie G Charlie Tanner, an undrafted free agent from Texas, will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee ... S Don Warren and LB Josh Mauga sat out practice with concussions ... DE Ropati Pitoitua underwent his surgery to repair his torn Achilles' tendon. He's out for the season .
Minor roster moves. The Jets acquired WR Brooks Foster on waivers from the St. Louis Rams. They re-signed S Keith Fitzhugh, who was on their training-camp roster last year. They waived WR Vic Hall and OT Adam Tadisch.
Slauson starts ... again. Rex Ryan said the left-guard competition between Matt Slauson and rookie Vladimir Ducasse still is ongoing, but he confirmed that Slauson will start for the third straight week. Ryan indicated that he hopes to get Ducasse some work with the starters. That would be a first.
Return to Long Island. The Jets will return to their former home, Hofstra, albeit for only one practice. That will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday for "Family Night." After that, everyone will race home to check out the third episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks." Will Revis announce his return on the show? Don't bet on that.
