Mets add prospects to 40-man roster

On the deadline day to place farmhands on the 40-man roster and protect them from the Rule 5 draft, the Mets added right-handerJosh Stinson, right-hander Armando Rodriguez, third baseman Zach Lutz and second baseman Jordany Valdespin Friday. Previously, right-hander Manny Alvarez had been added.

Stinson, 22, went 11-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 36 appearances (18 starts) between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Buffalo.

Rodriguez, 22, went 8-9 with a 3.08 ERA in 27 starts for low-A Savannah.

Lutz, 24, hit a combined .287 with 19 homers and 55 RBIs in 268 at-bats over four teams, primarily Binghamton.

Valdespin, 22, hit a combined .272 with six homers, 41 RBIs in 382 at-bats between St. Lucie and Binghamton and had 17 steals in 29 attempts. He recently competed in the Arizona Fall League before suffering a forearm strain.

The Mets' 40-man roster currently stands at 36. (Francisco Rodriguez does not count at this moment, but will.)
