Right-hander Dillon Gee, left-hander Raul Valdes and first baseman/outfielder Nick Evans are expected to join the Mets on Monday for a series opener in Washington, a source with ties to the organization told ESPNNewYork.com.Noah K. Murray /The Star Ledger via US Presswire
Nick Evans is expected to join the Mets for the series in D.C.
Gee (13-8, 4.96 ERA) was named Buffalo's Comeback Player of the Year. He missed 98 games in 2009 with a shoulder injury. This season, the 24-year-old right-hander leads the International League with 165 strikeouts. Read a full profile of Gee here from a farm report. Like Lucas Duda, Gee needed to be added to the 40-man roster to be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
Evans, 24, hit .294 (102-for-347) with 17 homers and 55 RBIs in 88 games with Double-A Binghamton this season. He earned a promotion to Buffalo on July 30. He then hit .314 with six homers and 25 RBIs in 140 at-bats in Triple-A. This is Evans' final year with a minor league option. If he fails to make the team out of spring training and is not traded, Evans would need to clear waivers to again be sent to the minors next season.
Valdes was 2-3 with a 4.73 ERA and one save in 31 appearances with the Mets earlier this season.
UPDATE: Evans will be active at Wrigley Field on Sunday. He will wear No. 6.
