Giants request permission to interview Bills coach Pepper Johnson

The New York Giants have requested permission to interview Buffalo Bills defensive line coach Pepper Johnson for their defensive coordinator vacancy, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The interview will take place early next week, per Schefter.

Johnson, 50, joined the Bills this season after 14 seasons as an assistant for the New England Patriots. He played for the Giants from 1986-92, winning two Super Bowls.

This season, Johnson coached a Bills defensive line that sent three players to the Pro Bowl: Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Marcell Dareus.

The Giants fired defensive coordinator Perry Fewell this week.
